Dr J.Pharmachem ( India
) specializes in sourcing of fine chemicals, plasticizers,
cosmetic chemicals, additives, intermediates of dyes,
agrochemicals and Pharmaceuticals from India .
With almost 12 dedicated
clients and more than 30 successfully commercialized
products, their in-depth knowledge of the Indian
chemical industry enables them to find an exact dedicated
manufacturing facility to manufacture the niche products
for their customers. This cuts down on the cost and
time required by their clients to build fresh facilities
on their own.
Business Challenges
and Solutions
Prior to developing
the system, Jpharmachem managed all the information
manually. The information was lying around on various
media like computer files, printouts, and folders.
Worst still most of the time, the tasks or data was
just remembered. A normal inquiry coming from the
buyer would take around 1 week to get a quotation
from the suppliers. At this time, they felt the need
of organizing their data for enhancing the productivity.
Since then, LogicDNA has developed a wide variety of desktop and web based
applications to streamline the processes.
The effort started
with development of a website to host the inquiries
coming from the buyers to the Suppliers. In this
version, the suppliers responded by email. This drastically
reduced the workload of sending over emails to more
than 900 suppliers.
The next step was about knowing which supplier supplies what chemical. For
this purpose, we came up with a desktop system. The system was developed rapidly
with Visual Basic 6.0.
This system stored
all the chemicals that Jpharmachem traded in along
with the local suppliers that offered those chemical
products. This further streamlined the process as
the required information was readily available and
now the time wasted in waiting for suppliers to approach
was totally eliminated. Jpharmachem was able to immediately
contact the suppliers and get the quotation. The
inquiries on the website still helped approaching
new suppliers thus widening the market scope.
The period to get a
quotation from the supplier was reduced from 1 week
to merely 3 days.In process of expanding the business,
the next step taken was enhancing the same desktop
application to store information about the buyers
located worldwide who are interested in the chemical
products that Jpharmachem deals in.
For this purpose, along
with the suppliers, the software started keeping
track of interested Buyers. This data was mainly
used for future business expansion.
The Buyer information
was normally taken from Chemical magazines and other
sources. To minimize the time required for data entry,
we developed for them novel ways to input data. The
data from magazines was scanned into a text file
that can be opened directly from the software. The
user was able to simply mark and add the data. To
accept the data from third party websites, we made
use of features provided by Microsoft Excel. A small
utility that integrated with the desktop software
would browse through the given folder for all the
MS Excel files and directly add the data to the database.
Configuration files predefined the format of data
in MS Excel file and could be changed on the fly.
After more than a year of successful run with the technology, Jpharmachem decided
to go a step ahead and implement their complete process online.
We developed for them
a complete web portal that took care of buyer requests,
supplier quotations and tracking of orders.
The web portal developed
using Microsoft .net, now provides secured interface
for buyers and suppliers. The buyers send over their
inquiries online. An administrator from Jpharmachem
checks the request and hosts it for their suppliers.
The suppliers in turn send a quotation online that
can be reviewed by the administrator before he can
forward the status to the buyer through the same
administrative interface.
All premium buyers
of Jpharmachem are now provided with a desktop utility
that interfaces with the web service. This gives
them the ease and speed of working with desktop application
while still harnessing the power of the Internet
to interact with Jpharmachem. This has helped Jpharmachem
enhance the experience for its buyers thus further
strengthening their relationship.
Today, Jpharmachem has been successful in enhancing their response ability
exponentially. The initial lag in processing the inquiries has been reduced
to such an extent that they are now able to service more than 20 inquiries
in a single week and it has helped them enhance their buyer relationships;
thanks to the unique buying experience.
